bad blogging

so, i’ve been really bad about blogging lately. apparently i’m not the only one since hardly any of my bloggy friends post anything anymore either…

my excuse is different lately though… it’s not that i have nothing on my mind or nothing i want to write about, it’s that the stuff stirring around in my mind is of a nature that it would probably offend, shock or alienate most people who would read it.

am i the only one who does this? do other, seemingly normal, people out there walk around with thoughts in their heads that are so different from the actions of the masses that the sheer thought of people acting on them in any sort of numbers would cause some sort of major upheaval in the way our society lives? or is it just me? am i some sort of revolutionary or prophet, too afraid of saying what’s really on my mind, so as to make my ideas and opinions completely irrelevant? probably so. i guess i’m just wondering if anyone else ever feels like that.

somehow or other i’ve always felt like i was in the minority for one reason or another. true, i’m a caucasian, american female. i was raised in a middle-class household. i had two parents, one brother, and a dog. from a statistical standpoint, i’m pretty run-of-the-mill. i should fit in. and for the most part, i do a pretty good job of looking the part. when i was younger, all i wanted was to fit in. to be just like everyone else. i was tired of sticking out like a sore thumb for one silly reason or another… usually WAY amplified in my immature mind’s eye. NOW i kind of want to stick out, but for a real reason. maybe my whole, not quite normal, life has all just been preparation. training in not fitting in…

but i’m starting to get to contemplative here, and nobody wants to read that. like i said, this isn’t good blog material.

i really do want to write this stuff down though. i just don’t really have an appropriate venue for it. perhaps i’ll go back to my old days of journaling… only this time the pages won’t be filled with whichever stupid guy i had a crush on and how mean my mom is because i can’t see whatever stupid movie it is i wanted to see. maybe i’ll start another blog that nobody gets to read. just for my thoughts. who knows. maybe, after i die, someone will find this stuff and realize how really brilliant i was and the world will change. probably not, but it’s a fun thought. ;)

  1. I'm not kidding here, but I was thinking the same thing! My blog has become about keeping everyone updated on the kids and my life in general. For one reason or another, I never write down those opinions I stated in my very first blog are so rampant in my head. Tell you what, I'll let you read mine if you let read yours!

  2. Go for it, Rachel. Pleasing some faceless mass of regular people is way overrated. Be authentic. Don't hold back. I'm intrigued. The funny thing is that deep down, we all feel like outsiders in a way.

project life–week 15

here’s what we have for this week. nothing much extra this week, except two 8x10 collage sheets in the middle. first half of the week: the weekly collage sheet of extra pics, numbered, and with the pull-out journaling card stashed under the picture: 2nd collage sheet, entirely devoted to layla’s first t-ball game which was on saturday: second half of the week: I just got this put together today, because I’ve had something else exciting going on that arrived on my doorstep last night: yup! my 2 new project life kits! last week, when becky higgins announced on facebook that there were only 10 of the turquoise editions left and they weren’t making anymore, I jumped on amazon and ordered both kits before it was too late. good thing, too, because when I checked back later that afternoon, the turquoise was all sold out!  I’m super excited. they’re both so pretty and I tore into them right away. my plan is to get two years’ worth of pics into each of them (because I definitely didn’...

sick.

layla is sick. she’ll live, but it’s been no fun. she has some sort of cough/cold/fever thing that doesn’t want to go away. she woke up saturday morning coughing and said her throat hurt. later that morning, she had a very low fever, but spent the day complaining that I wouldn’t let her go out and play. so I guess she didn’t feel too bad. sunday, she felt fine in the morning, so we went to church. she coughed the WHOLE time during church. so dave and I went to tully’s and kept her with us during sunday school time instead of sending her to infect all the other kids. I kept her home from school on monday because she was still coughing. she played all day at home, but did take a little nap and actually fell asleep (warning!). but she wasn’t coughing as much that night, and felt fine that evening. she even went to her first t-ball practice and had fun. so yesterday, I sent her to school. when she got home, she at like 4 bites of her sandwich and wasn’t hungry anymore. she also said sh...

project life–week 9

typical start to the week: typical end as well: the “other pictures” from the week: micah’s artwork this week – in the first one, I was impressed that he added eyebrows, hair, and ears (his own idea); and the second one is the first time he’s ever given a ‘person’ arms and legs! (I have much fondness for watching kids progress through the typical stages of drawing): and in this one, layla had taught him how to draw a monster truck and this is his version: and that’s week 9. more to come, as well as a report on my 2010 and 2009 albums, which I am almost completely done with!

Project Life, Week 2 of 2019

Back to swimming lessons, haircuts, and Christmas tree removal highlight week 2.

smoothie-crazy!

I’ve always been into smoothies. but I kind of go in phases with them. there will be times that I have the ALL THE TIME, and then other times when I’ve forgotten about them and don’t have them at all. right now, I’m on a major smoothie kick. I was reminded of their sweet, wonderful yumminess a while back when I read a post on the pioneer woman’s site about smoothies . of course, she’s all photography-savvy and has a clean kitchen and whatnot, and I don’t, but this is my take on smoothies. actually, it’s just today’s take on smoothies. it changes daily, depending on what I have on hand or what I’m in the mood for. as you’ll notice, it’s also a shameless plug for my 3rd favorite kitchen appliance. (the first being my coffeemaker, obviously, and the second being my coffee grinder.) so today’s smoothie consisted of the segments of 1 clementine (I have a 5 lb. box that I need to use up before they are not so good… plus, I figure the vitamin c will not hurt me any.), a BUNCH of frozen raspb...
