rachel's continued ramblings

sunday: more sanding. my skin was turning green. also sunday: filed under: life right now. monday: memorial day weekend concludes with more sanding… this was the slowest process ever. tuesday: new bottle!!! also tuesday: after dropping layla at gymnastics and before he had to be at baseball practice, we made a quick costco run. micah was an awesome helper. i pushed the cart and told him what i wanted. he loaded it all, and put it on the conveyer at checkout. then he helped me load the car. wednesday: most (not all, as i learned at on a subsequent trip) of my things out of my classroom. it’s for real that i’m not going back in the fall. now, what to do with this stuff? thursday: our family’s first orthodontist appointment! micah was pretty stoked that there was a wii in the waiting room. and he could see it though the door of the room we were in. verdict: no braces needed yet. but very likely later. saturday: finally starting the staining, now that it’s all sanded… dave had a ...

sunday: rumors fly quickly through the neighborhood. people kept showing up. at one point the doorbell rang and the kid on the porch said, “we heard there’s a slip & slide.” monday: memory books DONE. tuesday: tragedy!!! my bottle dropped out of its handle in the parking lot and shattered! also tuesday: final band concert of the year. thursday: promotion ceremony for shane. friday: first trip to echo lake of the summer. also friday: new bar pit at the gym. saturday: they both needed a break from sanding all the green paint off the deck boards.

sunday: mother’s day! dave made ribs for dinner, i got new shoes and a cute new apron, layla did the dishes, and…. all the kids wanted to help me get the pictures ready for memory books. monday: huge crowd at the bus stop this morning! also monday: raining cats and dogs all afternoon, but they didn’t call the game until we got there. there were puddles and waterfowl using the field. also monday: plugging away, slowly but surely on the memory books. wednesday: micah built himself a shoe shelf out of wood blocks. friday: playing second base. saturday: happy girl/happy dog. happy girl/happy cat.

sunday: layla, micah, and dave got to go with my dad to a game in the All Star Club! micah was sad all day that the mariners didn’t win. but at least this year’s game didn’t end with vomit at 11:30pm. wednesday: a little extra time before i needed to leave for work and a forecast with no rain was the perfect opportunity for me to throw my daily load on the line. also wednesday: i told micah he needed to go outside and do something active in the fresh air instead of playing video games all afternoon… he decided the best thing to do would be to get the biggest shovel he could find and dig a hole in the middle of the yard. thursday: we have had this hairy menace for 3 years!! and he’s turned out to be a pretty good dog. also thursday: micah’s game ended in exciting fashion when a HUGE streak of lightning hit not far away, thunder, downpour, and finally hail! friday: this week we are adding a second injection to layla’s meds. hoping enbrel is magical. saturday: this is where i’ll be ...

Monday: we were participating in national lutheran schools week at preschool, and monday was pajama day! tuesday: toby, being toby. also tuesday: layla spent all of her birthday and christmas money buying herself a tumbling mat to practice gymnastics at home. it arrived today and she was so excited! saturday: i found it amusing how toby was sitting with shane… kind of a consoling, pat-on-the-shoulder pose. like, “it’s okay, man. you’re a good guy.” saturday: very exciting! some of layla’s gymnastics team went to see the UW vs. Utah meet, and got to participate in a workshop with the gymnasts and coaches afterward. go huskies! q&a with UW gymnasts afterward. the workshop itself wound up being a little bit lame and disorganized, without a lot of actual gymnastics or coaching, but meeting the gymnasts, the coaches, and using their equipment was pretty cool.

sunday: this crazy dog… monday: trial run of preschool science experiment. LOVE these vases. tuesday: this cat. super helpful. but snuggly and cute. thursday: and another cat being cute and snuggly. beatrice is still faithful in giving my mom loves. saturday: layla has determined that it’s time for a haircut… it was really long! but got so tangled. sporting her shorter hair.

sunday: the kids choir sang in church. yes, there are just 3 of them… started as 5, now we’re down to 3… monday: layla was sick last thursday and I made her skip gymnastics. so we were back at the gym on monday to do a make up class. I was impressed with the things this coach was having them do… handstands on the beam, roundoffs off the beam, etc… and then after the class, layla declared, “I hope I never have to go on monday again. it was awful. I felt like I was in a level one class!”… so apparently I need to pay closer attention to what she’s learning on thursdays. tuesday: trying out some different jewelry looks… totally loving the “love is patient” window frame with the wrap bracelet and the doubled up “over the heart” chain. thursday: baseball!! micah’s first baseball game ever. his team is the white sox and he’s #41 there in the outfield. he had a good game, and had his first hit at his first at-bat! friday: money-pit dog is at it again! thursday evening, bonez was tearing ar...
