rachel's continued ramblings

sunday: shane and layla are back at it. this time with the flute. also sunday: saturday’s epic water spill forced me to deal with the heinously cluttered counter and TWO junk drawers that had all sorts of crap in them from the last 5 years! also also sunday: the light in our office has a dimmer switch. ever since we took out the chandelier (many years ago) and put in a dome light (it’s supposed to be a formal dining room), it has flickered like crazy and drives everyone nuts. dave bought a regular switch today and swapped it out. no more flickers! also also also sunday: layla made our french toast tonight! thursday: trying REALLY hard to not turn on the furnace. in addition to the hoodie and blanket you can see, there was also fuzzy pajama pants, socks, slippers, a fire in the fire place, and a heating pad under my butt. i caved 2 days later on saturday and turned it on… friday: micah was having a hard time waking up, so i responded with my usual, “want a cup of coffee?”, forgetting th...

my alarm went off today at 6:10. A full 40 minutes later than usual. Sick days (when you’re not dying and you actually have a pre-arranged sub) are awesome. I went downstairs, poured some coffee with eggnog, made a sandwich for shane, let the dog in, turned on the christmas tree lights, and sat down to catch up on all the excitement that is my FB newsfeed. The highlight is always the “on this day” reel. It’s fun to relive who I used to be. I also read about 2 different friends who have stomach flu going through their houses and made me want to put a plastic haz-mat bubble around the house and not let anyone out. took meds to rid myself of stupid pink eye and sinus infection which are the reason behind my second sick day in a row. after shane left for the bus, I woke up my other kids. micah is still sleeping in his tent. he says he doesn’t want to take it down until the first day of winter. you know, because camping in the winter is not the best idea. layla was not so enthusiastic to ...

sunday: baby mario & baby luigi are ready for breakfast. apparently micah built them high chairs. also sunday:  just hanging with my favorite girl and taking selfies. this was after she finished giving me a “fancy” new hairdo… monday: not sure what possessed me, but I found myself obsessively thinking about fig newtons. hadn’t had them in years, and they weren’t that great. thursday: more baseball. friday: layla was so desperate for a wrap bracelet, but they are too big. someone tipped me off that the larger size can go 3 times around a girl’s wrist. happy girl! saturday: contemplating whether or not my blades are salvageable, should I ever get around to buying new boots. also saturday: sporting my own bracelet stack.

sunday: the kids choir sang in church. yes, there are just 3 of them… started as 5, now we’re down to 3… monday: layla was sick last thursday and I made her skip gymnastics. so we were back at the gym on monday to do a make up class. I was impressed with the things this coach was having them do… handstands on the beam, roundoffs off the beam, etc… and then after the class, layla declared, “I hope I never have to go on monday again. it was awful. I felt like I was in a level one class!”… so apparently I need to pay closer attention to what she’s learning on thursdays. tuesday: trying out some different jewelry looks… totally loving the “love is patient” window frame with the wrap bracelet and the doubled up “over the heart” chain. thursday: baseball!! micah’s first baseball game ever. his team is the white sox and he’s #41 there in the outfield. he had a good game, and had his first hit at his first at-bat! friday: money-pit dog is at it again! thursday evening, bonez was tearing ar...

sunday: the bug. woohoo! my parents bought this from my mom’s cousin. it’s a ‘67 and is in awesome shape. the paint isn’t perfect, but OMG, pretty darn close. the interior is amazing, it runs great… wowza!!! it’s a freaking dream-come-true for this bug-loving gal! monday: it’s teacher appreciation week at preschool!!! I got delivered a grande, 2 pump. hazelnut latte to my classroom by one of my awesome parents and 2 of my kids – all before school started! LOVE! tuesday: and teacher appreciation week continues! this time it was flowers. each kid brought in a flower and one of the moms put them all together in this beautiful display! LOVE! (the rest of the week continued in this fashion… chocolate on wednesday, pictures or cards on thursday, and an amazing scrapbook put together of interviews from the kids!  LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!) wednesday: I have never been a bracelet girl. usually, bracelets are too big for me and I can’t handle things flopping around on my arms. monday: this is what our street looks like right now. I honestly have no idea what they are doing out there. tuesday: YES!!! my spring catalogs finally arrived!!! so. much. awesome. stuff…! wednesday: bonez in the front yard? yes! meeting the kids when they get off the bus? yes!! running around like a happy dog? yes!!! thanks, invisible fence! thursday: micah got to take a free trial of a gymnastics class. he was so excited to get to jump into the foam pit! he wants to sign up for classes, but I told him he had to wait until baseball season is over. also thursday: just a few things layla is working on… like being eaten by pacman. friday: lutherwood!!! this was micah’s first year to be old enough to go, so dave got to be the chaperone! both kids had a blast. dave? sunday: apparently this is how the princess sleeps… also sunday: day two of epic dethatching project… we have raked up most of the moss into rows or piles. bonez thinks they’re comfy. tuesday: layla has mastered the cartwheel! thursday: check out this glorious spring tree! no, it’s not mine. wish it were, though. friday: this was an awesome day. 1) no preschool for conferences. 2) all of my parents scheduled their conferences on thursday. 3) all of my kids DID have school. 4) I got to meet up with some friends I never get to see anymore and took a decent walk on the trail. 5) I got coffee. 6) I got my nails redone (thanks, origami owl, for the extra cash!) with a little pot ‘o’ gold theme. 7) I went thrift shopping! saturday: layla is sporting the layered necklace look… premier designs, origami owl, and goodie bag trinket! also saturday: gotta love a good rope battle. (and when I can sneak a picture of shane into the book!)

sunday: on the boat to come home after our amazing weekend in victoria. monday: layla, playing her recorder for gramma laurie. also monday: amy and her boys came for a visit. while she was here, I had her give layla a trim. wednesday: finally getting our van fixed. it was expensive. ugh. thursday: shane and I had mid-winter break this week, but layla and micah did not. shane was busy doing something or other that was not school all day, and I therefore, was unable to leave micah with him while layla went to gymnastics. was that ever a bad deal!! micah wanted so badly to be able to participate as well, and spent a lot of his time pouting about it.
