rachel's continued ramblings

sunday: all star club baseball game with my dad, pastor, and peggy, and all i took a picture of was the platter of samosas. in my defense, they were delicious. and the mariners lost. also sunday: either he’s trying to be a lap dog again, or he just doesn’t care that we were sitting here first. monday: not sure how many 4th graders are excited about this reading assignment, but this mom sure is! wednesday: yes, i love my dog. i played with him in the dead grass and let him shed all over my black pants. wednesday/thursday: found this on the counter before i went to bed. micah has been way into napkin notes recently, and is now demanding a “reasonable sentence” to go along with his sponge drawing… i think i nailed it. saturday: we actually grew some peppers! also saturday: micah (and dave) were very excited about the outcome of the USC game.

monday: layla had some youtube-inspired craft project going on and she needed bottle caps. so she went searching through the house. apparently, she couldn’t come up with enough empty bottles to steal the caps from. well, at least she left a note… right? tuesday: letitia and family in town, which means we squeezed in a mini-reunion! thursday: nolan, lisa, and aaron were briefly in town on the tail end of a trip to canada, so they stopped over. sadly, this is the only picture i took. we had a great time. even when nolan broke the toilet. also thursday: mega-rips. friday: it’s my birthday!!! so, spud it is! layla threw seaweed on me, so i chased her with a crab claw. my gifts/card from dave. my dad got me bowling shoes! rental bowling shoes! except they’re new. and they belong to me! saturday: hitting the road, early in the morning, heading for california! shasta sighting.

monday: another week of kids bowl free! tuesday: layla marching in the bothell 4th of july parade with the gym. and a whole bunch of pics from our party. corn hole tournament. the winner of the corn hole tournament, AKA “the great cornholio”. fireworks. finishing off the pyrotechnic portion of the evening with sparklers for all the kids. wednesday: bonez needed a day to recover from the party. thursday: hike with kids and dog at paradise valley. saturday: we had to get dave this shirt. LOL! also saturday: date night in snohomish.

so, my dad has been v e r y  s l o w l y going though boxes in his garage, getting rid of stuff, etc. a lot of it is my mom's stuff that he has no use for or doesn't think he will use. protocol is that he shows it to me before he gives it away, in case it's something I want or could use. today's box was full of candles. back when we lived in ohio, my mom and I went to a couple of partylite parties, and she even hosted one. all of my partylite candles have long since been burnt up, but she apparently still had a bunch, and my doesn't seem to think that scented candles need to be a part of his life. win for me. so i'm sorting though this box to see what there is. aside from a bunch of partylite tealights and an awesome 3 wick brick candle, there were some candle holders, and then a bunch of assorted stuff and a big ziplock of the cheapy tealights we use in jack-o-lanterns and not much else. I already have my own big ziplock of those, so those will probably fin...

sunday: a rare sighting of the superhero “micahman” streaking across the backyard. (his power is using this wand to put storm clouds in the sky…) monday: our caterpillar family is growing! we keep finding them everywhere! AND, a couple of the ‘boy’ caterpillars have already cocooned themselves. also monday: the long-awaited MOMS club fundraising dinner at teddy’s! my final job as the AVP. tuesday: shane was awarded “wolf of the month” at school and we got to go to a special award breakfast. so proud! friday: layla seems to have some mystery illness. no fever, but acting like it. lethargy, no appetite, but no recognizable symptoms otherwise. saturday: my kids (the almost 9 year old and the 6 and a half year old) got super excited to see this coin operated horse outside the grocery store. they BEGGED for quarters. I happened to have 2, and, just because it was so ridiculous, I let them ride. it proceeded to rock slowly back and forth for about a minute. I nearly fell asleep. they ...

monday: nothing quite so awesome as construction outside the window at the library. tuesday: a friendly cat came to visit me while waiting at layla’s soccer practice. wednesday: layla’s clay walrus. thursday: apparently this is a doggy diner. friday: because micah had no school, he had to come with me to do my library duties for layla’s class. he got to read books and play games while I shelved books and checked kids out. saturday: ready to get totally spanked by juanita. it was a brutal game. also saturday: check out the totally HUGE mushrooms growing in the woods by my parents’ house.

sunday: micah, at a school friend’s birthday party. monday: just hanging out at grandma and grandpa’s, reading a book. tuesday: “these are my duck feet!” wednesday: reading ‘bad kitty’ books together on the way to school, and laughing hysterically. thursday: micah built this sentence, and then I had him read it. the word he didn’t have trouble with: jumped. the word he did have trouble with: the. he can read, but only if he doesn’t know he’s doing it. go figure. friday: layla and friends in the lunch room. love these girls. I hope they’ll always be friends. saturday: a totally beautiful morning for soccer.
