project life 2014–week 13

sunday: it was a dry, sunny day! so micah rode his bike, had himself a picnic, and then built a nest and sat on his eggs… okay, he took a blanket, formed a nest, filled it up with yellow tinkertoys (they are roundish shaped), and pretended they were eggs. monday: better known as “mustache monday”! it was a theme day at school and these guys were SO excited about it! also monday: another gorgeous day meant an afterschool picnic in the front yard (it stays out of the shade longer than the backyard). also also monday: another pair of sunglasses I DON’T hate, busted. I have this one pair that I despise. they are uncomfortable, the lenses are scratched, they are ugly. THEY WILL NOT DIE. I’ve had them for years now. YEARS! for me, keeping track of a pair of sunglasses for longer than one season is a record. (which, btw, is why I’ve never paid more than $15 for a pair. and that’s a splurge!) I cannot break them and I cannot lose them. sometimes they disappear for a while, and I do a happy

sunday: dave had to spend the day at work (again), and has been really wanting to hit varlamos lately, so we met him over there for dinner. YUM. major oinkage. monday: micah entertained himself with my mom’s special edition monopoly game for close to 2 hours. also monday: apparently toby does not think this would be a good time to take pictures of last week’s layouts… thursday: micah woke up super early and took full advantage of some (rare these days) daddy time! he was very excited to have breakfast with him. also thursday: and shortly after that, my non-early riser, layla, was up too! no idea why they woke up so early that day, but they were all very happy to cuddle up together. saturday: layla and her giggly girl friends having breakfast at camp lutherwood! meanwhile, back at home on saturday: this is one of many reasons I love my dad. he’s outside working in the yard and micah got sent out to help him (ie, get some fresh air and quit whining about using my phone), so my dad

remember when I used to blog?

you know, like actually write posts about stuff that I thought or things we were doing… funny stuff my kids were doing, how my daughter, at the age of 2 and a half, refused to poop… I wrote about knitting, I wrote about cooking, and more than anything, I think I wrote about my horrible fight with the entity of housekeeping… it’s funny to look back, something I find myself doing a lot of now, and see how, in the 6 years since I started this blog, life has changed. a lot of it is that my kids are older. the ‘stuff’ of daily life is different. all of my kids are in REAL school now, at least part of the day. I haven’t changed a diaper in years. nobody takes naps, unless they are sick or have been to a sleepover. breastfeeding, potty training, baby wearing, co-sleeping (except for the occasional sneaky nighttime visitor or bad dream) is all a memory now. even sippy cups. I didn’t think there would ever be an end to the sippy cups. it’s all very, very weird, and I find myself getting nostal

sunday: stayed home from church with 2 coughing/sneezing kids. got to play a rousing game of headbanz with a cat cemented to me instead. monday: I took this out my parents’ kitchen window. I was doing some cleaning there and my dad went outside to do some yardwork. suddenly it started DUMPIMG hail. typical of my dad, he kept right on working, whilst hiding under the trees. tuesday: getting started on layla’s science fair project. this is her grand plan. two pots of lettuce seeds. one will be watered with water, the other with sprite. we’ll see if there’s a difference. wednesday: driving between the upper and lower totem lake malls… both sides of the street are lined with thunderclouds and they are in bloom right now! so pretty! I used to drive this route home from work every day about 7 years ago, and always try to make an excuse to go back around this time of year because it’s so awesome. also wednesday: hello spring! which of course meant: thursday: we had some time between dr

layla’s project life!

I am very excited to announce that my daughter has caught the bug! the project life bug! she received a kit (mayfield childhood edition) and an album for her birthday from uncle joe and aunt mary, and has been begging me and begging me for months to order her some pictures to get it going. well, that’s easier said than done, since it involves backtracking and choosing photos from the past, figuring out how they will lay out in the book, etc. etc. (it is SO much easier to print and complete pages in real time! seriously. major motivation to keep up in my own current album!) layla has chosen to start with her 7 year old/second grade year. it is incredibly convenient that her birthday is in the summer, so it falls neatly between two school years. this is like a soothing massage with calamine lotion for chronology obsessed rachel. so I finally got some pictures organized and ready to be printed, then waited for a good deal. shutterfly came through, and I got them ordered. she was SO exci
