are you thinking what I’m thinking?

I just had the following, completely random and out of the blue, exchange with my daughter.

her: mom, are you thinking what I’m thinking?

me: uh, I don’t know. what are you thinking?

her: I was just thinking that if we took some really thick white paper that was cut in a square… and we painted ginger’s toenails… and we didn’t make her wait til they were dry… and we put her by the really thick white paper that was cut like a square… she could scratch on the paper and she could be an art dog!!!

me: wow. that is definitely NOT what I was thinking.

a swimsuit RAVE!

I’ve totally been neglecting this blog… you know, I’ve got a new baby, and big sister blog isn’t getting as much attention. sorry. at any rate, something monumental happened today that I MUST report. I bought a swimsuit. it was a pleasant experience. I’m really excited about it. you might remember that about a month ago, I wrote a post ranting about the prospect of shopping for swimsuits. well, today, in target, I had this sudden epiphany. instead of looking at all the flimsy, skimpy, unflattering swimwear, I decided to go look in the workout clothes. I mean, really, they’re basically the same thing. they’re both made of fabric that is meant to dry quickly and not bunch up or get heavy when wet. the only difference is that workout clothes are meant to cover and contain parts of you, while swimwear is apparently supposed to flaunt and expose it. so, I found a cute top and a cute skirt, both of which FIT, and I’m not embarrassed to wear, and didn’t come from a specialty shop, co...

people are stupid.

today, upon checkout at the grocery store, i learned the following: angelina walked in on jen and brad! prince william accused camilla of being a drunk! kate has turned from mom to monster! george w. bush is on suicide watch! certain mystery celebrities have had plastic surgery flubs! who is bikini-ready and who is not? paul newman’s mistress admits he loved his wife more! why do i need to know this? why is it that tabloids, gossip magazines and “entertainment” tv shows make millions by feeding this crap to the general public? why is it legal for photographers and reporters to follow people around, stalk them, crash their parties, etc.? why are these vultures, who make their livings off of dragging people through the mud and making up BS about them, protected by law? yes, i’m all for freedom of the press. i believe that the government should not control the information that it believe the general public should receive. however, what about privacy...

a few things that have tickled my funny bone this evening.

3 year old logic is great! layla was in the backyard today and she came up to the door with her lightning mcqueen bike helmet in her hands and said to me, "when i break my lightning mcqueen helmet, you better get me a princess one." (yes, mary. i am aware that my worst nightmare is unfolding before me.) dave brought home dairy queen treats when he went to pick up our pizza this evening. layla was very excited about this and wanted hers as soon as she was done with her pizza. we informed her that she had to eat her green beans first before she could have it. she's not so fond of them lately and made a little stink about not wanting to eat them. but we stuck to it and said she had to eat them first. so she turned to me and said, "mommy, you eat my beans so i can have my ice cream." then there was this conversation: layla: daddy, i want some blue jelly beans. dave: you don't need any jelly beans. layla: but i want some blue jelly beans! dave: no, layla. layla: ...

meal plan tuesday

so i liked how it worked last week so much i’m moving my shopping day to tuesday.  and, since we went out sunday night after the power went out (for 11 hours!) we had sunday’s dinner last night. which brings us to today… tuesday: pot roast; potatoes & carrots wednesday: fried chicken; mashed potatoes; peas & corn thursday: ???   dave’s taking shane to a soccer game and i’ll be running around shuttling people where they need to be so the little kids and i might grab something or have sandwiches or something. friday: pizza; green beans saturday: beef stew; sourdough sunday: omelets; toast monday: leftovers and no, we’re not having corned beef and cabbage tonight.  the first year we were married, i made it at dave’s request.  haven’t done it since, and no, i don’t feel guilty.  i told him that if he really, really wanted to have it for st. patrick’s day, he could knock himself out and make it himself.  not re...

meal plan monday!

two weeks in a row and here we go! monday: beef-barley soup; sourdough tuesday: chicken; beans and rice; salad wednesday: tater tot casserole thursday: thanksgiving!!! friday: pizza; green beans (duh) saturday: leftovers sunday: scrambles; toast there you have it. i’m using the left-over yummy pot roast from last week for my soup tonight. OMG, it was SO good. i made the best gravy EVER with it too. some of that might find it’s way into the soup as well… okay, i’ll stop. i know everyone (myself included) is gaining weight just reading this! i mentioned last week about husbands being super helpful in the inspiration department… well, mine came through for me this week. NOT. when i asked him if there was anything in particular he was craving this week, he responded with, “turkey.” yeah… what a turkey.
