meal plan tuesday

so i liked how it worked last week so much i’m moving my shopping day to tuesday.  and, since we went out sunday night after the power went out (for 11 hours!) we had sunday’s dinner last night. which brings us to today…

  • tuesday: pot roast; potatoes & carrots
  • wednesday: fried chicken; mashed potatoes; peas & corn
  • thursday: ???   dave’s taking shane to a soccer game and i’ll be running around shuttling people where they need to be so the little kids and i might grab something or have sandwiches or something.
  • friday: pizza; green beans
  • saturday: beef stew; sourdough
  • sunday: omelets; toast
  • monday: leftovers

and no, we’re not having corned beef and cabbage tonight.  the first year we were married, i made it at dave’s request.  haven’t done it since, and no, i don’t feel guilty.  i told him that if he really, really wanted to have it for st. patrick’s day, he could knock himself out and make it himself.  not really my cup of tea…  i must not be irish.

**edited to add** just have to say that i did my shopping today and got out of safeway having only spent $66.86!!! AND, that was after buying a few treats for kate’s birthday (happy birthday, kate!) plus extra chicken and extra stew beef.  HOLY COW! makes me wonder what i usually spend so much money on!  i did, however, look closely at the safeway flyer while i was planning my meals this week, so that probably helped a lot.  woo hoo!

    thanks for the great advice on booster seats. I don't like high chairs either. at home we use the stokke chair, I got it at cost when I was working before I had Zoe. The chair you got at a garage sale sounds wonderful.

    I'm very impressed with the abilities that Micah has.

Road Trip Day 6

Yesterday was our last full day in Milwaukee. Shane arrived in the morning, but promptly went to bed and slept most of the day, since he had caught a flight at midnight to get out here. Matt took the kids fishing for a little while in the afternoon. Layla caught 1, Lauren caught 1, and Micah caught 4. They also did a little canoeing. Then there was some swimming, where Lauren, Madeline, Micah, and Layla were all trying to flip Dave out of his donut floatie. It took them like 20 minutes and was pretty funny to watch. Also, his toenails were stupid-long and some kids got mauled. Later Melissa, Doug, and Josh came over. We played corn hole, basketball, badminton, and an epically terrible game of kickball at the park. Until Josh kicked the ball over the fence and lost it. Good times. We brought Matt some Woodinville Whiskey from home. And then we impressed everybody with our $2 Harbor Freight tennis racket bug zapper. And Simon decided that Shane was a good enough human. Road Trip Day 8

We've been a full week on the road now. 2 more to go. We started our Sunday in church at St. Paul's, where Dave worked (and the reason we ever lived here in the first place) from 2004-2006. Then it was lunch at Hill's, a bit more driving around, and discussions of various places (the fairgrounds, the bridge that got blown up, etc.). Then we went to visit Fred and Brenda, and wound up riding around on 4 wheelers all afternoon. Then, back to Danny's for steak dinner - so yummy! And then over to the Lange's for some puppy time! And we finished off with soft serve in a baseball helmet at Frosty Boy. It was a great day. So awesome to see so many friends and visit important places. License plate and state stats are the same as yesterday.

Road Trip Day 2

When we went to bed on Sunday night, the plan was to get up at 6 and leave by 7. HA! We left our campground at 8:30 after coffee, eggs and bacon, showers, packing up the trailer, getting more ice for the cooler, etc, etc... There was also the part where we figured out that the heater in the trailer only works if you have the propane turned on. Otherwise it just blows cold air. And the other part where Micah got himself locked in the bathroom. The deadbolt on the door was super tight. Dave was super smart and pulled on the knob while Micah turned. Then we drove. A lot. Montana is a big state. In case you weren't aware of that. At some point, we stopped at a rest stop in Waco, MT that made Layla nervous. Pretty sure she thought she was going to die while using the toilet. We also saw some gone-to-seed weeds in the grass by the parking lot with gigantic dandelion-like puffballs. lug nut fail

notice anything odd? no, it’s not that my wheel is very dirty. that is not odd… yup. missing a lug nut. actually, not just the nut. the whole bolt. last night, dave set out to replace the front brakes which were in dire need of replacing. apparently, in the process of getting the wheel off, the bolt in question BROKE OFF, rather than just releasing the nut. hmmm… needless to say, I did not drive anywhere today!
