well THAT doesn’t happen every day…

thank goodness.

I was doing a little browsing on my computer.

I had to get up to go chase micah down and make him get dressed.

I returned, approximately 2 minutes later, and found this:

011

yes, that’s a slug.

and a pile of marginally defined goo of dirt, grass, and slug slime.

on my dining room floor.

where my chair had been only moments before.

and my feet.

eeeww.

I have no idea how it got there.

I assume it has something to do with the dog.

or the kids.

btw, simple green is excellent for removing slug slime from hard floors.

in case you ever find yourself in such a predicament.

i didn't have an actual roll w/ the green plaid on it, but i found a refill and an empty roll in my junk drawer (yeah, i know, that should tell me something).  but even the empty one says 'scotch' on it.  there you go!  SCOTCH TAPE!

blessed with good oral health!

well, i made it another 6 months with no cavities! i had a dentist appointment today. my second in six months, but prior to that, i don’t think i’d been in 4+ years. oops. i was much less nervous for this appointment than i was for the last one. last time i figured my luck had run out and because i’d been bad about seeing the dentist, this time i’d really ‘pay’ for it. but no. other than a little excessive scraping of tartar (4 years’ worth), everything was fine. around the time i turned 20, i pretty much assumed, every time i went to the dentist, that this was finally my time for a cavity. i mean, how long really, can one person go without ANY cavities? well, now i’m kind of over that and figure that maybe my teeth are just impenetrable or something. at any rate, every time the dentist comes in at the end of my cleaning, pokes around for a minute and tells me my teeth look great, i breathe a sigh of relief and feel tremendous gratitude for my good teeth. the no cavities thing is only ...

finally!

here are layla’s curtains!  actually up on the window! i have to say i’m quite pleased with myself for actually getting this done.  but i have to give credit where credit is due… so thanks to my MIL for going to the fabric store w/ me and helping me with measurements and all that.  AND, thanks to debbie for letting me use her sewing machine and for ironing all the hems for me!  YAY!!!!

a sign of christmas again...

i had to take a bunch more pictures since i had run out of my original set.  so here's a new sign for today (just ignore the baby gate, it's an ugly necessity): this picture actually covers like 3 different signs - which should make up for my lack of posts in recent days.  we have the nativity set - love the willow tree stuff, the garland wrapped in lights (something from dave's cache of christmas traditions) and the stockings.  some people have all matching stockings, and that's great too, but we like ours all different.  from left to right, we have layla's, dave's, mine, micah's, and shane's.  we were in ohio for layla's first christmas, and a member of our church here, made that and sent it to us.  it's beautifully done cross-stitch.  dave's was made by a next-door neighbor when he was a kid after his original stocking was chewed up by mice in the attic.  it's like a boot or a tennis shoe or something.  my mom made mine when i was 9 o...

halloween!

first off, I apologize for the extremely BAD job I did of photographing this whole deal. where was my brain? halloween started for us on thursday, with a MOMS club playgroup. layla was super excited to get to change into her cowgirl costume when she got home from school. I had gone to target earlier that day to pick up some pink boots to complete the look. micah refused to put on his costume. I forgot my camera. friday, was layla’s class halloween party, so she got to wear her costume to school. then micah and I joined her for the party. micah refused to put on his costume. I forgot my camera. friday night, there was the ‘monster mash’ at the school. shane offloaded himself to a friend’s house, and dave and I took the other two to the school. there was bingo and ‘dancing’ (aka: running around like crazy people hopped up on sugar in the gym), food (aka: sugar), and fun times seeing all the kids in their costumes. dave managed to stuff micah into his costume this time, but...
