uncle E’s wedding weekend–friday

dave and I arrived at LAX on thursday evening. his parents picked us up at the airport and we went straight to the hotel.

friday morning, we got up and had some coffee and visiting with gary and laurie, grandpa dick, uncle bill, and lori in the hotel lobby. we found out that nana’s flight had been cancelled and they were going to be driving down instead. this meant that I got sent to the bridal tea in her place. so after a little walk around pasadena with grandpa, laurie, lori, and I walked over to the scarlet tea room. it was all very elegant and yummy! a little awkward, at first, since I didn’t know anyone, but everyone was very nice.

I didn’t take any pictures, so these are all laurie’s.425072_3726051102716_1654311855_n523566_3726072663255_436190119_n544593_3726051262720_1241895282_n602432_3726051422724_509148885_n

after the tea, dave and I got into swimsuits and took a dip in the hotel pool.

that evening, when everyone else went to the rehearsal dinner, dave and I went out to dinner, just the two of us, to a mexican restaurant called mijares. according to the placemats, it’s been in business for 92 years, and they are famous for their margaritas. I sampled one, and it was definitely good. dave had enchiladas and carnitas, and I had steak fajitas. it was SO yummy. 021

and then there was a mariachi band that walked around and sang! it was awesome. great dinner, great restaurant, great time w/ just my hubby!022

after that, we walked back to the place where there was an after party following the rehearsal dinner. I met some more people (family members and other friends of uncle eric’s that dave knew). lots of basketball types. there were drinks and pool. by 11, I was yawning, so we headed back to the hotel.

“about me”

this (and some minor variations of this) has been my ‘about me’ headliner since I started this blog almost 6 (gasp!) years ago: i'm a wannabe 1950's housewife continually searching for my sanity. nose-wiper, owie-kisser, connoisseur of pbs cartoons... the Lord has blessed me with a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful children, loving parents, and a new, GORGEOUS house. i love knitting, reading, gardening, scrapbooking, THRIFTING!, blogging and otherwise avoiding the housework i should be doing (but i'm trying to do better and keep this beautiful house looking beautiful). oh, and i NEVER capitalize unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. I need to change it, but I wanted to preserve it, because it has described me for a good long period of my life. a lot of it is still true. I am still amazingly blessed in my life and my calling to be the wife of a wonderful man and the mother of these awesome children. I’m no better about housework than I ever have been, and my avoidance hobbies are s

party time

sunday afternoon was micah’s mini-party. i really didn’t want to have a big to-do, so we just invited a few friends to come hang and eat cake. and that’s what we did! but first we had to pry him away from his trains. when i asked him, “micah, do you want cake?” he replied, “no, i want thomas.” here trudy is attempting to convince him to come see his cake… eventually, we decided to bring the cake in there. we did manage to drag him away long enough to chow down! present time! Oballs are the best! the super soft, plush thomas ‘pillow’. we all want one. SO soft! books. and more train stuff. VERY exciting!    it was a ‘thomas’ kinda birthday for this 2 year old!

week 40 in pictures

sunday: micah, at a school friend’s birthday party. monday: just hanging out at grandma and grandpa’s, reading a book. tuesday: “these are my duck feet!” wednesday: reading ‘bad kitty’ books together on the way to school, and laughing hysterically. thursday: micah built this sentence, and then I had him read it. the word he didn’t have trouble with: jumped. the word he did have trouble with: the. he can read, but only if he doesn’t know he’s doing it. go figure. friday: layla and friends in the lunch room. love these girls. I hope they’ll always be friends. saturday: a totally beautiful morning for soccer.

Lessons from my Septic Tank

The joys of homeownership paid us a visit this week. First, the water dispenser on our fridge decided to stop functioning properly, leak all over the place, and need to be replaced. Thankfully, a few parts and a handy hubby and we are back in business.  Today, he replaced the brakes on the Subaru because it was making a horrible squealing noise like cars do when they start demanding new brakes… Yesterday’s situation, however, required a professional. For a couple of weeks, our downstairs toilet has been making a weird gurgly noise after you flush it. We initially thought it had something to do with the new innards Dave had to put in it recently (since it was running and needed the ball float mechanism replaced with a new situation), but that wasn’t the problem. We thought there might be a clog, so tried plunging it and even snaking. Made no difference.  Then Wednesday, I went outside to look at the garden and got all kinds of heinous whiffs of sewage smell.  {insert ominous music} So D
