2017–week 8

sunday: random cousin fun. gramma laurie had glow sticks. the girls were using them as bun accessories. also sunday: Christie's bum foot in its gigantic boot. Monday: on our way out of sacramento, the railroad tracks barely above the flooding. Tuesday: back home and enjoying my morning coffee in my souvenir black bear diner mug. Wednesday: my dad is cleaning out his garage and bringing me boxes to go through... this one had easter grass. I wanted to scream. I hate easter grass. hate it hate it hate it. Thursday: Layla has been having some jaw pain, but Thursday was bad. she called me from school in so much pain she was almost in tears. we got in to see the dentist in the afternoon, and she referred us to a specialist we will see next week. could be molars, could be arthritis, we shall see. also Thursday: neighbors are out of town which means some pet-sitting. Bonez gets to accompany me to visit Gretzkie. happy pups. Friday: I have been trying to come up with the best (least ...

2017–week 7

Sunday: After much stress and prep and planning, we pulled off our “fish pong” carnival game for the blue and gold banquet. the kids all seemed to have fun with the game and enjoyed our “pond scum” swedish fish jello prizes. monday: say hello to the new dapelo family van! fondly named “paper, snow, a ghost!” she’s a 2014 chrysler town and country. also monday: of course, it’s last minute valentine addressing. Tuesday: i love dave’s beard, i really do, but i HATE the trimming and all the little hairs that get all over the place. makes me crazy. they make these awesome contraptions called “beard bibs” that have suction cup thingies on them that fasten to the mirror so the bib catches all the hairs… i’ve been telling dave he needs one. and then he showed up with a trash bag and some scotch tape. it mostly worked… thursday: after driving as far as Weed on wednesday, we stayed the night in a marginally ghetto motel 6 with 2 full-sized beds for the 5 of us, and got up the next morning to...

2017–week 6

sunday: so it begins… that fun evening game where you’re keeping one eye out the window at the falling snow, and the other eye on your phone, bouncing back and forth between the forecast and the news source for school closures that may have been already announced. i may or may not have yelped in glee and thrown my phone in the air when i refreshed it for the millionth time and saw BELLEVUE listed as closed! no work for me! monday: most of these will go into a separate “snow day” insert in the book. school was cancelled for pretty much the entire western half of the state, so much fun was had, playing in the snow. i took a picture of shane taking a picture of his measurements of snow on the fence. lol. a “new and improved” way to do dog sledding… i think they’re both confused. layla seemed to think this was the best way to get micah across the ditch full of frigid water… somehow, he made it, and then they decided it would be a good idea to jump it. i’m pleased to report that no one...

2017–week 5

sunday: another meet. layla’s team took 3rd. also sunday: micah’s cub scout den at the police department. and attempting to get out of a jail cell. monday: shane is taking a cooking class this semester, and one of his assignments was to cook dinner. he made us homemade mac&cheese with peas and carrots. it was good! then he made some muffins that were not so good. and he learned that there is a difference between baking soda and baking powder … bonez being particularly helpful… pretty sure something was dropped. wednesday: layla came home from school all excited that she had learned to play la bamba on the flute. also wednesday: business expo at the school. as a project for language arts, the kids had to create a business proposal, logo, brochures, and a model of their business. then they had to present them to families at the school that evening. big surprise, layla’s was a gym. thursday: trying out the game Farkle, that gramma laurie gave us for christmas. we found it to ...
