Picture 026

it's the famous toilet-paper-tube-soldier ornament!  yup, that's a toilet paper tube, a styrofoam ball, some felt and some sequins and trust me, it would not be christmas without this ornament.  i made sure to hang it out of micah's reach since it could easily be destroyed by monkey-boy and dave would be devastated should anything ever happen to it.  these are they type of things that let you know that christmas is a family celebration, not something to be copied from a magazine.  gotta love it!  what ornaments do YOU have that fall into this category???

  1. I have to admit, soldier is not the first thing that came to my mind but once I read it, it clicked. I like how the brim of the hat partially covers the "eyes." It makes the soldier look very determined.

  2. Um... soldier. Right, I see it. Sort of. :)

We have special ornaments too... all hung on the tree well out of four-year-old reaching capacity.

micahisms – installment 1

since micah is now talking up a storm, i figured it was time to write some of this down before i forget.  he’s got lots of words, and several sentences, too, and like all of my kids, he never shuts up!it’s so cute (for now). he has your usual: mama, dada, ball, duck (although it’s usually ‘quack’), dog, ball, shoe (which also refers to socks), down (which also refers to up), kitty, boat (pronounced, ‘boap’), car, go, that… there’s probably more that i can’t think of right now, and he comes out with new ones daily. there’s a couple funny ones that i think are really cute: train = ‘toot toot’ and airplane = ‘whoa!’ i think because anytime he sees one in the sky, he points at it and yells, ‘whoa!’ but now when he picks up a toy airplane, he calls that ‘whoa’ too. pretty funny. and the ‘toot toot’ thing cracks me up. oh, and he still does the ‘fff, fff’ thing when he sees a dog. we haven’t determined if he’s trying to bark (as in woofff, wooffff), or if he’s trying to say ‘soph...

micah’s first day of preschool!

so, micah FINALLY started preschool yesterday! he was supposed to start a couple of weeks ago, but first, the teacher asked us to wait until the following week because her assistant was sick (and there would be too many kids). then it snowed for a week and school was closed. so he should have started tuesday, but I found out that the class (which he had never met or been to) was starting the day with a field trip to the fire station. not that micah wouldn’t enjoy the fire station, I just thought it would be a very weird way to start preschool for the very first time, AND I had to be someplace at the time I would have had to be at the fire station with him… so, we waited until yesterday. he was very excited (in a typical micah sort of way) and was all over it when we got there. he washed his hands like he was supposed to and found something to play with. I had to force him to say goodbye to me and give me a hug… no anxiety issues there. he was not so enthusiastic about taking a picture...

playgroup aftermath

we had playgroup here today. lots of fun, lots of MOMS, lots of kids, lots of mess! micah got up this morning before 6 and powered right on through until everyone left at 3. and then at…   we had this: sleepy guy. we had to go pick up shane from the y, so i put him in the car and he napped until we were almost back home. a perfect little nap!

a tribute to layla

i love my daughter. i really do. if i had only 3 words with which to describe her, it would be “full of life”. and she really, really is. she is someone who wants to experience all that life has to offer. i love the age she is too. her excitement about things is always contagious and her ideas hilarious and creative. she’s one of those kids who can’t just paint the paper, and whatever the rules for the game happen to be, they’re too boring and she’s going to play it her own way, darnit!                      there are a few things that come with this fabulous age, however, that i could easily do without. the screaming fit she had today, for example, over a graham cracker. she had the intention of giving it to micah, and broke it in half, even though, the whole time she was doing it, i was telling her NOT to give one to micah because he was having his lunch. i...
