what I wore wednesday

so… here we go again! another week, another series of outfits that attempt to look cute, coordinate, and not be jammies or sweats. it’s starting to act like fall around here. chilly in the morning, foggy, warming up to the low 70’s by afternoon. except yesterday. I think we topped out at 65 and it was FREEZING! at any rate, that means I’m starting to reach for more layers, long sleeves, and my skirts and capris are being replaced by a boring, 9 month long onslaught of long pants… but the good news about all of that is that I dug out my uggs for the first time today! woohoo! I have warm, toasty, comfy feet right now… the bad news is that you can pretty much plug those into any picture I take of my outfits from here until next may. it’s a win-lose situation. I think I’ve covered every day except saturday. I did get dressed… and I had a picture, but it was horrible, and after looking at it, I can’t believe I went out in public with my hair looking like that! at any rate, I am going to do my best to forget that saturday happened.

wednesday:

016

yes, I’m headless. I hadn’t done my makeup yet, so I figured I’d just NOT take a picture of my head. LOL!

  • tunic sweater: old navy, thrifted
  • tank: j crew, thrifted
  • capris: levis, via handmedown, via personal alteration
  • necklace: target
  • shoes?

pretty sure I wore shoes that day, just can’t remember which ones. I’m sure they were black, sandal types.

thursday:

 034

  • top: american eagle, thrifted
  • cami: thrifted
  • jeans: handmedown
  • jewelry: walmart and ???

and I even painted my toenails to match!050

friday:

it felt so much like fall on friday that I dug out my corduroy pants!

  • top: express, thrifted
  • cords: old navy, thrifted
  • necklace: 1928

sunday:

      080

I’ve been waiting for it to get to be ‘fall-ish’ enough to pull out this dress. I LOVE THIS DRESS. love it. the deep eggplant color, the bell-shaped sleeves, the pleated satin sash… LOVE! and we were even in a picturesque location when I was wearing it, too! of course, I posed for all of like .5 seconds before I had to start directing my kids to stop running away, leave the ducks alone, not to fall in the water, etc… I’m so demanding. my husband had the camera and was apparently having fun with the whole situation… 081 083

I’m pretty sure that last picture can be captioned, “have you taken any pictures yet?” he just laughed. the rundown:

  • dress: express
  • cami: target
  • shoes: born
  • footless tights: pretty sure these are left over from my dancing and/or skating days so… probably danskin or baryshnikov. dance tights are THE best. I have a hard time wearing any ‘normal’ tights. they always fall down or roll over at the waist, giving you a spare tire you didn’t really have to begin with… NOT flattering! there, that’s your fashion tip of the day. stop buying your tights at target. go into a dance shop and stock up. you’ll thank me.
  • jewelry: my famous pearls that I love.

monday:

 089

you can go ahead and disregard the “okay, go ahead and take the stupid picture so we can get out of here” look. this is what happens when I have my almost 5 year old take my pictures… first of all, I was in a little bit of a panic that he was going to drop the camera on the driveway, and secondly, I just wanted to leave. note the arm load of ‘mom junk’ I’ve got going on… other than my water bottle, I’m not even sure what I’m carrying, but I know it was getting awkward to hang onto.

tuesday:

090

first of all, I’m totally ticked about this picture. this was my favorite outfit all week (well, maybe second favorite), and it’s the worst picture. I never had a chance, and this was taken, by my amateurest photographer (again) at sunset. so I look all yellow and the flash went off because it’s too dark and blah blah blah… at any rate…

  • jacket: h&m, thrifted
  • top: handmedown
  • jeans: gap, thrifted
  • earrings: target
  • keys and plastic bag: just a bonus! ;)

so there you have it… linking up 2 places again this week! you should totally join me. at least check some of these out. good inspiration!

what I wore wednesday

iiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s wednesday again!!! which means it’s time for me to brag about all of my incredibly well-thought out and likely expensive fashion endeavors prove to the world that I didn’t wear jammies all week. well, not all week… wednesday: tank: old navy, thrifted cardigan: handmedown jeans: thrifted flip flops: kohls earrings: target scarf: thrifted I was SO excited to find this scarf! it’s gorgeous! very silvery and shimmery, the blue flowers and so cute, AND it’s short! for somebody like me, who is of the not-so-tall persuasion, really long scarfs (or even standard length scarfs) can sometimes be a little overwhelming. you know? it’s like, “how many times can I wrap this thing around my neck before you can’t see my head anymore?” at any rate, this one is awesome and I love it and expect to see it on me a lot! I also found the process of trying to take a picture to be quite entertaining. I have a ‘people dog’, meaning, wherever her people are, that is where she th...

today…

my alarm went off today at 6:10. A full 40 minutes later than usual. Sick days (when you’re not dying and you actually have a pre-arranged sub) are awesome. I went downstairs, poured some coffee with eggnog, made a sandwich for shane, let the dog in, turned on the christmas tree lights, and sat down to catch up on all the excitement that is my FB newsfeed. The highlight is always the “on this day” reel. It’s fun to relive who I used to be. I also read about 2 different friends who have stomach flu going through their houses and made me want to put a plastic haz-mat bubble around the house and not let anyone out. took meds to rid myself of stupid pink eye and sinus infection which are the reason behind my second sick day in a row. after shane left for the bus, I woke up my other kids. micah is still sleeping in his tent. he says he doesn’t want to take it down until the first day of winter. you know, because camping in the winter is not the best idea. layla was not so enthusiastic to ...

camping 2017 (photo heavy)

yesterday, we returned from a camping trip. it was fun and relaxing and wonderful and all that. this was our second time at this particular camp ground, since we liked it so much the first time we were there, 2 years ago. this time, we reserved a site that backed up against the creek, which was awesome. the only negatives were the burn ban that prevented us from having a fire (again), the fact that our entire family forgot to bring pillows, and the mosquitos – but i’ll get to that bit later. monday: we arrived mid-afternoon and got things set up, explored a bit, and then decided to take a walk down the road to lake wenatchee state park. we wound up finding this little trail that went down to the lake. there were some really nice views. yes, I took my enamel camp cup of moscato with me. when dave said, “let’s go for a walk”, i thought he meant just around the campground…    when passing this sign, shane declared, “hey, there’s wifi!” we all got a good laugh. after our little wa...

a timeline of confusion

may 2006: layla takes her first steps january 2007: layla, in the process of potty training, decides that, not only does she not want to poop in the potty, she does not poop AT ALL. february 2007: layla STILL refuses to poop. you can read all about it here , if you feel the need. however, in reading over that post, there was a very significant sentence: she walks around on her toes . this was in an effort to keep her poop in . this whole poop-phobia thing lasted only about a month, but apparently it was long enough to imbed toe-walking firmly in layla’s muscle memory and it became a habit. december 2007: dave’s gramma gives layla a shirt with a tu-tued dancer on the front and the words ‘future ballerina’ because she has apparently noticed that she is always on her toes. sometime in the general 2008-2010 span of time: when visiting layla’s doctor for well-child checkups, I ask about the toe-walking. he examines her legs and ankles, checks her heel cord flexibility, etc., and d...

i’m sure i will offend all sorts people with this…

… but i just don’t get why the entire world is so torn up about the death of michael jackson. yes, he had an insanely successful career as a singer/entertainer/pop star. yes, he took a lot of that to a whole new level. yes, i remember thriller and doing the moonwalk. yes, i remember wanting one of those red leather jackets, and one of those sparkly white gloves. however… i’m also wondering why everyone else is seeming to forget how he bleached his skin (and then had a big hit stating that it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white… always wondered about that one), underwent so much plastic surgery that he barely looked human anymore, made crotch-grabbing an acceptable dance move, hung his kid over a balcony, showed up for court in his pajamas, and, oh yeah, was accused of child molestation HOW MANY TIMES??? this was a VERY disturbed man. i have never understood why being a celebrity excuses people from upholding the same morals and standards that we expect of normal people. i w...
