district finals!

shane’s (and dave’s) soccer team participated in and WON the district finals of the washington state youth soccer recreation cup tournament in november. it was a COLD, wet, rainy, SNOWY day to watch soccer. BUT, in true dynamite spirit, the stands (read: parents) were LOUD, crazy and intimidating! after the win (2-0) there was a presentation of the second (that was us last year) and first place medals. then they posed for the group shot, which was eventually published in the local newspaper. this win advanced the boys on to the state semi-finals in vancouver,wa a couple of weeks later.038039045048049050051052

well THAT doesn’t happen every day…

thank goodness. I was doing a little browsing on my computer. I had to get up to go chase micah down and make him get dressed. I returned, approximately 2 minutes later, and found this: yes, that’s a slug. and a pile of marginally defined goo of dirt, grass, and slug slime. on my dining room floor. where my chair had been only moments before. and my feet. eeeww. I have no idea how it got there. I assume it has something to do with the dog. or the kids. btw, simple green is excellent for removing slug slime from hard floors. in case you ever find yourself in such a predicament.

what’s in my closet? installment #9 – accessories

okay, this is something I’m not very good at. I’m trying to get better. I’ve always had a minimalist approach to dressing. if it doesn’t serve a purpose, why put it on? well, I’m slowly coming to terms with the idea that accessories may serve a purpose, even if they don’t cover a limb. first picture – ‘formal’ bags: tiny black bag (???): I think this bag is fun, but you really have to be traveling light. it’s covered in big black sequins. pink silk bag (farmer’s market): I LOVE this bag. get comments on it every time I carry it. it’s made out of kimono fabric, and lined with green. it’s big enough for a couple things, but not many. red clutch (target): I got this to use with the black dress featured yesterday. it’s tiny, so again, light packing. layla is obsessed with this bag. even if I never use it again, I’ll save it for her to use. second picture – ghosts of purses past: blue hobo bag (old navy): I really love this purse. I love the rainbow stitching, I love the big dumpy s...

there was a mosquito in the bathroom.

I woke up this morning with a migraine. got up, took some tylenol, drank some water, promptly threw it up, went back to bed and stayed there all day. well, almost all day… dave was a saint and got the kids all sorted out and taken to their various destinations before going to work. micah stayed with my parents, and my dad volunteered to meet layla’s bus and then take her back to their house until dave came and got them after work. that way I could sleep in a quiet house all day. everything SHOULD have gone smoothly. around 11:55am, approximately when my dad would have been waiting for the bus to arrive and deposit my daughter, I get a call from the school. “hello, this is so-and-so, an assistant at (name of school). layla missed the bus today.” seriously. she missed the bus. the mid-day, kindergarten bus. my response was, “how is that even possible?” the lady on the other end told me that the mother of one of layla’s classmates was in the office and had offered to bring layla...

week 48 in pictures

sunday (actually, saturday evening): micah likes to take pictures. he took this one the night before we left CA, and I think it’s awesome. papa gary, in his recliner, reading the paper. I love that the angle on it is low – from his perspective. it’s his papa, through his eyes. monday: dave took the day off of work, since we arrived home LATE the night before. shane was up and off to band earlier, so layla was the only one to take to the bus stop in the morning. she wanted daddy to walk with her. awww… tuesday: apparently shane had some styrofoam packing mold stashed somewhere in his room. micah found it and created a little snow storm for himself! UGH! I hate styrofoam! yes, we vacuumed him. wednesday: the kids had been looking forward to this for weeks! school skate night at skate king! (btw, locals, skate king is EXACTLY the same as it was when we were kids. exactly.) this was layla and micah’s first time EVER on roller skates and did great! thursday: my child does not know ...

week 32 in pictures

very layla-heavy this week. camera magnet. sunday:     do not believe that crap about boys and girls being no different. I used to believe it. I did everything I could to provide gender neutral toys and experiences. and then I experienced reality. shane and micah play with cars in this way: they line then up. they race them. they crash them. they make outrageous wrecking noises and ‘vroom vroom’ noises. they build stuff like car washes and repair shops and off-road vehicle parks out of blocks for the cars to use… layla plays with cars in this way. (and may I add that this is all after the cars have had baby cars and taken their naps under the blanket… monday:     layla is super happy to have mastered the hula hoop! tuesday:     this magic little piece of plastic was in layla’s stocking last christmas. it’s a card holder and is SO awesome for little kids who want to play card games, but can’t manage a whole handful of cards. wednesday: ...
