what I wore wednesday

I’m totally posting this late, and I was afraid that I was not going to be able to link up, and then I wasn’t going to even bother to do the post, and then I’d have all these pictures of me wearing cute clothes. (I actually thought about saving them and plugging them in on days when I sit in jammies all day and fib!) but, fortunately, the link up is still open and I’m posting! besides, I had to follow up last week’s cliff-hanger post about my haircut!

wiww

wednesday:011

  • top: thrifted
  • jeans: gap via thrift store
  • jewelry: handmedown from my mother.
  • haircut: heck yeah!

this is a great outfit for showing off one’s new hair style! 012

it’s also great for going out to dinner with your family and just generally looking really good in your new hair style! ;)

thursday:   013

  • top: old navy via handmedown
  • capris: same old gap via thrift store via personal alteration
  • jewelry: no idea!065

this outfit works for taking your son to the junior high so he can stand next to you in the picture line and asb card buying line, and the other line, and that other line, all while acting very aloof… you can also attend meet the teacher night at your daughter’s school. and lest I forget, this outfit works great for painstakingly (and awkwardly) attempting to style ones new haircut for the first time…

friday:       009 - Copy

  • top: target via thrift store
  • embellished capris: gap via thrift store
  • jade necklace: family heirloom
  • brown mary janes: born (love these shoes. LOVE.)

I’m sure this outfit is good for something, I just can’t remember what. so, I’ve always had a love affair with these capris. unfortunately, that means they’re really old. there were times (after babies) that they didn’t fit me, which was depressing. I still really like them, but I’ve had them for at least 10 years and I didn’t purchase them new, and if you know anything at all about the way pants fit now vs. the way they used to fit you know that the cut of the whole butt/rise/waist/hip area is quite a bit different. I’m trying to decide if I still like them enough to keep them. after wearing them on friday, I think I had decided that it was time for them to go. but now I’m looking at the picture and I’m thinking it’s not so bad… opinions? advice? leave a comment.

saturday:   060

okay, clearly this is not a high fashion day, but my clothes were functional! oldest jeans and a ratty t-shirt I’ve had forever are PERFECT for transforming your youngest son’s room from brown to blue!

sunday:      021

this is what I wore to church.

  • top: thrifted
  • skirt: ross
  • necklace: can’t remember
  • shoes: payless

these are my super cheap shoes that I wore when I got married! I love this skirt, and I love even more that it fits me! there was awhile where I couldn’t wear it. please excuse the over-stuffed laundry basket, the random desk chair, and the dog head!

monday:    IMG_20120903_200326

another painting day… here, I’m sporting a freebie shirt from a mariners game giveaway and a pair of dave’s old boxers. you can’t argue with that kind of fashion! (do you like the subliminal messages I’m painting into my daughter’s wall? we did that in the other room, too!)

tuesday:    023

  • top: forever 21 via thrift store
  • jeans: handmedown
  • flip flops: kohls

so… I have always LOVEd this top. It’s seriously SO cute. but I’m not so much loving the way it looks on me here… it looks kinda… well… maternity. and that’s not really the look I’m going for, given that I’m not pregnant! and the last thing someone who isn’t pregnant wants is someone to think they look like they are! opinions? it might be time for this one to go.

  1. Lots of great looks! You have been busy! I love your subliminal messages. You will have to let us know how they worked.

  2. Great outfits! I do agree with you on the last look. It is so cute and it does also look maternity-ish. Do you sew or know someone who does? They could rework it for you. Cut some length (also where the width is) and hem it shorter. Use the scraps to make a super cute headband to go with it. In a word - "upcycle!"

for my not-so-american friends

i didn't have an actual roll w/ the green plaid on it, but i found a refill and an empty roll in my junk drawer (yeah, i know, that should tell me something).  but even the empty one says 'scotch' on it.  there you go!  SCOTCH TAPE!

tater tot casserole recipe

i realized i forgot to post this last week when we had it.  i actually like it a little better than the hash brown one, but both are good.  it’s VERY similar. once again, this is something i’ve made so many times that i just kind of wing it now, although i do have the recipe that kate sent to me after she made it for my family when micah was born. i like to keep the recipe because it has some little ‘britishisms’ throughout, just like kate! ;-) who, by the way, rocks, having called to check up on me the other evening when she saw that the power in our area was out AGAIN!  thanks kate, smooch smooch! but now i’m getting distracted… big surprise. here goes. you will need: 1 lb or so ground beef (or ground turkey) 1 chopped onion a bunch of veggies (kate’s recipe calls for a ‘tin’ of mixed veggies, but i use fresh carrots & celery if i’ve got’em, frozen beans, peas, corn, whatever).  maybe 2-3 cups. 1 can (or tin) of cream of something soup (i use celery usually

the swimsuit rant

i’ll forewarn you that most averaged-sized women will probably not appreciate this post very much. i understand. i’ve been (either directly or indirectly) the object of various hatred more than once. i am not an average-sized woman. i’m only 5’1” on a good day, and i’ve never donated blood because most of the time (when not pregnant – and therefore not allowed), i don’t weigh enough to do so. i do not ‘diet’, so to speak, nor do i work out compulsively. i try to eat healthy food, for the most part, and i try not to sit on my butt all day. this is just the way i am. our current culture views me as ‘lucky’ to have this body type. whatever. a couple hundred years ago, people would have considered me ‘unhealthy’. i am what i am. i am small woman. as the Lord has seen fit, i am a small woman who has given birth to 3 children. as i see fit, i am a small woman who wishes to exercise a bit of modesty, even when swimming. unfortunately, the swimwear industry, seems to think that the only

adjusting my attitude

this is something i tell shane to do all the time and i really needed to tell it to myself this morning.  although i go through phases where i'm diligent and consistent about getting up early and taking care of pertinent chores, getting dressed, etc. i've been REALLY bad lately.  and it's not just the christmas break thing because i've been throwing myself and the little kids into the car in our jammies to take shane to school for a while now.  it's something that's really been bugging me, but it's just so easy to sleep as long as possible and then turn on the tv for the kids while i drink coffee and surf the internet wake up for 3 hours a little while.  i am aware that i really need to have some sort of a schedule and i need to adhere to it. so after staying up past midnight reading a book about scheduling getting motivated, i vowed to get up early - before the kids - this morning and be all dressed and have some time to myself to take care of mornin

does home ec even exist anymore?

my last post got me thinking about how i somehow missed 'learning' all of those things which are essential in running a successful home. i'm wondering who dropped the ball on this (because, i can't possibly take responsibility for my own shortcomings here). i guess traditionally, one learns these things from their parents. i suppose i did learn a lot of my domestic skills at home. for example, the husband is supposed to eat the leftovers in the fridge. when making a bed, the 'top' of the top sheet goes down so that when you fold the edge over the blanket, the 'top' side is then up. why this matters when you are just going to cover the whole thing with a pillow and comforter is totally beyond me. but that's how you do it. so yes, my mother taught me how to iron, do laundry, clean a toilet, etc. my dad taught me how to plant a garden, mow a lawn, appreciate baseball, etc. and then there's home ec. do people still take home ec? i took it
