what I wore wednesday

okay, so I’ve kind of been lurking around the ‘what I wore wednesday’ link-up over at the pleated poppy, and I LOVE looking at the cute stuff people put together. I also LOVE the reasoning behind it. it’s basically accountability for putting on decent clothes each day. you know, not the same old sweats (or in my case, jeans and a hoodie). and given my recent closet exposé, I felt like it was good timing to jump in and participate.

you’ll have to excuse my terrible photos. I have bad lighting in the only room w/ a big enough mirror to accomplish this, and I haven’t gotten adventurous enough to pull out a tri-pod. but anyway, take this as me, making an effort to look decent, something I SO MUCH want to do!

sunday afternoon:

003

I should have taken a picture in the dress I wore to church, but you’ll just have to trust me on that one. it rocked.

  • jeans - old navy
  • black long sweater; pink cami – express
  • black top – thrift store
  • scarf – target
  • shoes – born via ebay
  • necklace – heirloom pearls (were my mom’s)

monday:

018

  • jeans – gap
  • top – ross
  • shoes – chucks!

tuesday:

035

this is what I’m avoiding, but it was a cleaning day, so here I am.

wednesday:

058

  • jeans – gap
  • top – thrift store
  • necklace – 1928
  • shoes – born

okay, so here’s the deal. clearly, part of my accountability needs to be of me standing in a CLEAN room without laundry baskets, hula hoops, or my husband’s jammie pants on the floor behind me. I’ll work on that for next week.

if you feel like joining the fun, get inspired, or just lurk, check it out!

  2. Love the sweats. I was sick yesterday and didn't leave the couch all day. I swear I love my sweats as much as my skinny jeans!

sourdough – installment 2!

well, i guess i did it right! today was day 4 since i made my starter. it had bubbled, grown, shrunk, and bubbled some more and was starting to smell more like wine than yeast. my experienced sourdough-making friend angie assured me that this meant that it had ‘soured’ and i could now use it. so i did. i decided to use my bread machine to do the mixing and kneading for me, but i wanted to bake it in the oven. i used the recipe for sourdough in my bread machine instruction book, and then used the baking instructions in a cookbook i have. at any rate, we have success!!! i was afraid they were a little too done, but actually, the bread and even the crust is still soft, even though it looks kind of dark. we dove right in and holy yumness! i think it could be a little more ‘sour’, so i’m going to leave my replenished starter out a day or two before i ‘put it to sleep’ in the fridge. but as it was, it was wonderful. i tried to take a picture of shane enjoying it, because his piece was big...

micahisms – installment 1

since micah is now talking up a storm, i figured it was time to write some of this down before i forget.  he’s got lots of words, and several sentences, too, and like all of my kids, he never shuts up!it’s so cute (for now). he has your usual: mama, dada, ball, duck (although it’s usually ‘quack’), dog, ball, shoe (which also refers to socks), down (which also refers to up), kitty, boat (pronounced, ‘boap’), car, go, that… there’s probably more that i can’t think of right now, and he comes out with new ones daily. there’s a couple funny ones that i think are really cute: train = ‘toot toot’ and airplane = ‘whoa!’ i think because anytime he sees one in the sky, he points at it and yells, ‘whoa!’ but now when he picks up a toy airplane, he calls that ‘whoa’ too. pretty funny. and the ‘toot toot’ thing cracks me up. oh, and he still does the ‘fff, fff’ thing when he sees a dog. we haven’t determined if he’s trying to bark (as in woofff, wooffff), or if he’s trying to say ‘soph...

hmmm... uncertain, the future is.

so, i'm kinda frustrated. yes, I realize this is stupid, since keeping this blog up to date has not exactly been a priority of late, but still. I spent a lot of time getting my stuff configured how I wanted it and how it would function best and how to insert pictures easily and all that, and now it won't work. ive always used windows live writer for my posts, and now, that is apparently dead, and it won't communicate with blogger and allow me to post. so I can post here, right in blogger, but the picture configuring is heinous and I hate it. or I can post via the app, but again, the picture configuring is heinous and I hate it. so. I can just not post, which has pretty much been protocol for the last year or so. or I can deal with my less than stellar options, and do my best. I miss blogging. I kind of feel like social media stole it. no need to post pictures and updates, because I can do it immediately from my phone, the second it happens. but I like the record o...

do you know who you are?

for real? in a consistent sort of way. if so, you’re lucky. or maybe you’re normal, and I’m in the middle of some decade-long, no end in sight midlife crisis… I seriously confuse myself. I never really know, from one day to the next, “who” I will be when I wake up in the morning. no, this isn’t some sort of schizophrenic, multiple personality disorder kind of thing. well, I don’t think so, at least. just kidding. I mean, yes, I’m rachel. yes, I’m my husband’s wife, my children’s mother, etc. that doesn’t change. but who I am as a mother. as a wife. as a daughter. as a generation x-er. as a christian. as a coffee lover. as a 12 years through college-er. as a former literature major. as a public school grad, parochial school survivor, homeschool advocate but homeschool ing chicken with TWO kids now enrolled in public school. as a former waitress, preschool teacher, tie-dyer, pizza deliverer, secretary. as a native washintonian and whatever else fills in the description of ME...

instafriday

I just looked at the calendar and realized that there are only 2 more fridays left of the summer. eek!!! I guess I shouldn’t complain since most of the rest of the country have already gone back to school at this point… so here, once again, are my instagrams for the week, linking up! my daughter’s white board strikes again! awww… our first blooming sunflower! rose bouquet cut from our many gorgeous rose bushes! my first ALMOST ripe tomato of the season! (I picked it a couple days later and had it on a salad. more to come! tons of green ones. it makes buying tomatoes at the store seem really, really lame…) my bush beans have flowers… I was feeling sort of sick/run down, so I took a nap… when I wasn’t staring at the ceiling feeling sorry for myself… um… yeah, apparently it’s not actually ‘hippo food’ (as we call it), but rubber chicken eggs? I don’t know. but are the hippos going to eat the eggs? this whole scenario is a little bit disturbing and I think I need to stop ana...
