latest micahisms

i know i wrote a post about “nonnies” recently (bananas), but i’ve been noticing that micah is starting to abandon his cute baby pronunciations of some things and i want to make sure i write them down before i forget.

  • doko=hot dog (or any similarly shaped object)
  • bopple=apple (similar to layla’s bapples, but not quite)
  • lala=layla (not the teletubby)
  • beebee= baby (usually in reference to dolls, but he got super excited at the library the other day when he saw a real baby and kept pointing and yelling “beebee! beebee!”)
  • gaygake=pancake

there’s no more mama or dada, we’re mommy and daddy, or sometimes even just mom or dad. SO depressing! and the one that’s killing me is “toot toot” is starting to change over to train. sometimes we get “toot toot, train” now. like he has to combine both before switching.

we really like his “what doing?” and “where going?” questions. if you’ve seen phineas and ferb and know isabella’s tagline, “whatcha doin?” that’s the spin you’ve got to put on it. SO funny!

growing!

just a little update: so I posted at the end of january about my “ 33 pound waif ” and her new tiny person accommodating car seat. well, I picked her up one day last week and thought she felt REALLY heavy. so I thought I’d put her on the scale, just for curiosity’s sake… 38.2 pounds. yes, that’s right, she’s gained 5 pounds in less than 2 months. crazy! dave, of course, suggested that in not very long, we’d be able to SELL the carseat while it’s still in really good shape and get some good money for it. I gave him a dirty look.

project life–week 12

eek! another week, flown past! shane was mysteriously absent from this week’s POTDs. he makes an appearance in the collage of ‘extra’ pictures, though. I must try to hunt him down so he can get in the book a few times, at least! first part of the week: layla completed her first scrapbook album of her very own this week and was very proud of it. it was a lot of fun to help her with it too. the sheet of this week’s extra pictures: only one side this week. some layla artwork: some more layla artwork, the ‘sheep’ card she made in sunday school, and an assignment she brought home from school: and the latter half of the week: we have a couple ‘dog’ appearances, as usual. wednesday, she made them tails. saturday, she turned plastic plates into frisbees and they ‘fought’ over it. kind of wondering how long this phase is going to last! and that’s week 12. I’m starting to rethink the adding of too many pieces of art and such… I can see that it’s going to get really full really fast… hm...

meal plan monday

lent starts this week, so we’ll be having dinner at church before the services every wednesday night! I love it because I don’t have to cook, and it’s fun to see friends over dinner as well… of course I have to negotiate bites w/ layla (who generally doesn’t like soup, which is generally what they serve), and I get to put a bowl of soup in front of micah so he can look at it, refuse to eat it, and eventually eat it myself… oh well, such is life. monday: soup and grilled cheese sandwiches; fruit cocktail tuesday: chicken and rice casserole (we never had it last week); peaches wednesday: soup supper at church thursday: tater tot casserole friday: pizza; green beans saturday: hamburgers; oven fries; carrot sticks sunday: waffles ; bacon DOH! just realized I forgot to buy the buttermilk for the waffles. oh well, I’m sure there’s something else I’ve forgotten as well.

Road Trip Day 10

Okay, I'm getting caught up here. It's been a few days since we've been able to upload all the pictures from the camera and get everything in one place. Fortunately, I know that day 10 was also July 10th, and that it was a Tuesday, so I should be able to figure it out from there. We were all VERY sad to be leaving Napoleon. We said goodbye to Danny (twice, because we were slower getting out than we anticipated -really, we should have figured out by now that we will ALWAYS be slower than anticipated - and he got back before we had left), and made a quick stop at Chief. One souvenir my dad asked for was some Monster cookies, so we had to make sure that happened. We headed south though Cincinnati and over the river into Kentucky, where we met Lindsey for lunch. We then drove to our big destination of the day, the Ark Encounter. We had heard that it was pretty impressive. It was HUGE. And very expensive. Really, none of us were that impressed. I felt like, other than the sheer s...

bacon-potato chowder recipe

dave found this recipe at some point when we were living in ohio. he apparently had a hankering for some chowder of some kind. so I have no idea where the credit goes in this case. but we’ve been making it ever since, so it was definitely a winner! 1 lb. bacon cut in small pieces 1 cup chopped onions 4 cups diced potatoes 2 cups water 1 tsp salt (and some pepper) 2 cans cream of something soup (chicken or celery) 2 cups sour cream 3 cups milk **edited to add: apparently, dave says he adds a clove or two of garlic as well. chop them up with them up and add them with the onions.** in a big pot, cook bacon over medium heat. add onion and cook until tender. drain off grease. add water, potatoes, salt and pepper. cook 15 minutes. stir in soup, sour cream, and milk. cook until heated through. easy, but best to do all you’re chopping, dicing, and measuring ahead of time. if you like it thick, simmer a little longer… don’t make this if you are dairy intolerant or on a diet! lol. a...
