here we go…

does this one actually NEED any explanation? 003

“hey mom! make a funny face!” (micah is obsessed with black and white pics. he’s always telling me to ‘turn it grey’. funny kid…)005

my hubby loves me! (and love crunch). seriously. this is the BEST cereal EVER. but it’s super expensive and comes in these tiny little bags, so I have to eat it in a tiny little bowl or I would eat the whole thing. seriously, like once a year we get this stuff. but it’s the bomb, I tell ya!007

sigh. my daughter is incapable of clearing her dishes. I do not know what it is. we are not a ‘leave your dishes on the table when you’re done’ kinda family. we clear our own. my youngest has been taking his own dishes to the sink since long before I was comfortable letting him do it. but the middle child… she seems to have some sort of mental blockage that prevents her from remembering that she needs to do this. EVERY MORNING, after she gets on the bus, I walk back into the kitchen and see THIS left on the table.009

this dog. she has an serious carb addiction. I cannot tell you how many loaves of bread we’ve lost to her. this time, it was a 20 pack of flour tortillas she nabbed off the table while we were all eating outside. grrr. at any rate, she got what she deserved because she was feeling pretty sick for almost a full 24 hours after the incident. this is what carboverdose aftermath looks like. look at that swollen belly hanging out.011

and… she’s finally feeling better. run it off.014

I curse this stupid keyboard. it has the most obnoxious preset music, and of course, that’s all my children want to do with it. they think it’s totally awesome to play a neverending loop of electronic jingle bells at top volume and then speed up the tempo until you’re quite certain that the keyboard itself is on meth.017

haha. they left it turned on and the cat made the mistake of stepping on it. he’s now quite suspicious of this unexpected noise maker.020

again.024

did you hear? the 80s are back! my daughter has been rocking the side pony for 3 days straight now…003

and I’ll leave you with this one. good morning… now where the heck is my coffee?005

  1. Mmmm. Margaritas. I've been meaning to make some myself this week, but I never did and now it's time to work the weekend. Such a tragedy! Stopping by from Life Rearranged, and I checked out a few other posts. Love the bowling collage and the pic of the family in bowling shoes!

“you should have your head examined!”

… i just did! yup, yesterday i had the thrilling experience of sitting in a hospital waiting room for 2 hours, followed by another in a trauma room.  no, i don’t think i had suffered any sort of major trauma – i think that’s just what room they had left to stick me in.  i mused about where we would go if they had to kick us out because a ‘real’ trauma situation arose.  thankfully, we didn’t have to learn the answer to that.  i guess i was a traumatic as it got during that window of time. backing up, i wound up in the hospital yesterday because micah threw some clothes on the ground.  the night before i had been folding laundry in the living room.  i had a couple of stacks of ‘hang up’ clothes that were draped over the baby gate in front of the fireplace.                         yes, it’s a christmas picture, but i knew i had it in my stash.  at any rate, there’s the ugly baby gate that the clothes were hanging on.  also notice the wood mantle above it that the nativity set is on.

light n’ crisp waffles recipe - everyone's favorite!

i got this recipe from my dad. i have no idea where he got it, but these are the waffles i’ve been eating as long as i can remember. they are so delicious, easy, and HEALTHY! OHMYGOODNESS, i cannot help but go on and on about them because they are so incredibly fabulous! if you want to see my picky eaters eat, come on waffle night! i think last time I made these, layla (all 33 pounds of her) put away 4 quarters of a waffle. that’s one WHOLE 10 square inch waffle. (and yes, i did just pull out my waffle iron and measured it!) anyway, here it is, without further ado… 1 cup flour (I usually do 1/2 white, 1/2 whole wheat) 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal 1 cup rolled oats 2 tbsp baking powder* 1/2 tsp salt 2 eggs 1/2 cup oil 3 cups buttermilk put all dry ingredients into a bowl, break in the eggs, add oil, then stir in the buttermilk. *t he amount of baking powder is not an error, but is the secret of the crisp, tender result! let the batter stand for a short time (15-30 minutes) to allow t

white chicken chili recipe

was just chatting about recipes w/ a friend and realized that i have talked about this recipe, even photographed a bowl of it, but haven’t ever posted it on here. what a shame, because it’s one of my family’s absolute favorites! i got the recipe from my betty crocker cookbook, and it’s one of the first things i ever made for dave and i after we were married. i even have the date written down next to the recipe and a smiley face, indicating we liked it. =) i actually don’t mess with this recipe too much, so here goes… i usually make a double batch so i can freeze some and still have leftovers. it freezes really well, so it’s a nice thing to have on hand. 1/4 cup butter 1 large onion, chopped 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped (or pressed) 4 cups of cooked chicken (chopped, cubed, shredded, whatever – sometimes i just throw in a couple of the cans of chicken they sell in a 6 pack at costco, if i have them on hand and don’t have any cooked chicken handy) you could also use turkey 3 cup

thanksgiving trip to CA

we decided to take a QUICK trip to EG over thanksgiving weekend. we weren’t so much going FOR thanksgiving, as we were taking advantage of the long weekend. thanksgiving was just an added bonus. the real reason we were going was to get to meet amy’s new baby finnigan (who BARELY complied, making his arrival just the day before). BUT, we got an extra BONUS baby, too! dave got a text early thanksgiving morning, as we were just driving into california, that anthony and chalane’s baby, abigail, had decided to show up a month early. we appreciated her courtesy! ;) micah and layla were tired after our all-night drive, and passed out together mid-afternoon, waiting for dinner. we brought mario kart with us… so there was much of this: the day after thanksgiving, gramma and papa treated us to a ride on ‘the polar express’ (which, I bet you didn’t know, runs out of sacramento)! it was loads of fun. everyone was supposed to wear pajamas, but the only one of our group who complied was micah.
