and thunder in the middle of the night = 1 very tired mommy!
I guess I never realized how spoiled I was with sophie, who couldn’t have cared less about stuff like fireworks and thunder…
ginger is a bit of a different story, as we learned as the 4th of july approached and she freaked out about the fireworks. pacing, panting, trying to hide, etc… at one point, she was found in the bathtub.
thunder is every bit as bad, and for some reason, we seem to be having an unusual amount of thunderstorms lately, for this area. joy.
actually, I LOVE thunderstorms. it’s something I miss from when we lived in ohio. out here, it just rains. there’s nothing exciting about that. thunderstorms, on the other hand, are very exciting! (assuming that you don’t have to keep your eye on the weather channel because of tornado watches… that, not so exciting.)
last night, I woke up around 2am to thunder. it was a doozy of a storm. lots of big flashes, long loud rumbles, etc… everything you could want in a storm. but it lasted. and lasted. and lasted. the kids all slept through it and I might have too, if it weren’t for ginger.
she was pacing around our bedroom. going from one side of the bed to the other… panting. wanting to be petted, but it did no good. she never laid down, she never quit moving. she was shaking all over. sometimes she would go wander into shane’s room for awhile, and then come back again. every now and then we would here a bunch of thuds and crashes as she climbed into the bathtub and back out again... she spent a fair amount of time in our shower…
close to 2 hours later, it must have finally quit because I finally got back to sleep…
apparently we need one of these:
it’s the “thundershirt” for dogs, which claims to soothe dogs with this sort of anxiety…
either that, or we need some tranquilizers.
and I need a nap.
