what I wore wednesday

here’s the obligatory link-up post for WIWW over at the pleated poppy.

kind of a pathetic showing this week… oh well. but I avoided the whole weird picture-of-self-in-the-mirror thing. that counts for something, right? and I got out of the badly lit, messy bedroom. btw, have SO many plans to pretty-up that fireplace and mantel. stay tuned.

sunday:

010

wore this to church. ruffled tank top: target. jeans: gap. long black cardi: express (I love that sweater!). pearls: heirloom. please ignore the slippers (I swear I didn’t wear them to church) and the weird angle on that picture…

wednesday:

002

black top: express (thrifted) – love the bling on the shoulders – and it’s hard to tell because I’m sitting, but it’s really long. like covers-my-butt long. love it. jeans: gap. black mary janes: born. jade necklace: heirloom.

micah took this picture for me, and he was so excited to do it! I say he’s hired. oh, and see the pretty flowers I got for mother’s day?

002 (2)I’ve had that jade necklace for years, but never worn it. not sure why. I guess I didn’t really know what it went with, and I was really lazy about jewelry/accessories of any kind. I’m glad I’ve rediscovered it now, though, because I think it’s awesome!

and that’s it for this week. I’ll try to do better.

dear neighbors which shall remain nameless,

i am writing this informational letter on behalf of your children, your bank account, and your auto insurance company, all of which suspect an impending blow to their current, healthy state. it appears that you may not be aware of certain traffic laws which pertain to the proper seating and safety of your children while in your vehicle, so i will take this opportunity to share them with you.   Washington's New Child Restraint Law Effective June 1, 2007, children less than eight years old must be restrained in child restraint systems, unless the child is four feet nine inches or taller. A child who is eight years old or older, or four feet nine inches or taller, must be properly restrained either with the motor vehicle's safety belt or an appropriately fitting child restraint system. Children under thirteen years old must be transported in rear seats where it is practical to do so. The fine for improperly restrained children in motor vehicles is at least $112 per c

to trick or treat or not to trick or treat… that is the question…

so i appear to be having a halloween dilemma. i’ve always ‘celebrated’ halloween. you know, we carve a pumpkin, dress up in costumes, go ring doorbells and get candy. i did it when i was a kid. my kids have done it. but that’s not to say i feel entirely comfortable with it. i haven’t looked into it a lot, but i am aware of the sketchy, pagan history of the holiday, and it does kind of disturb me that that’s what we continue to celebrate. and i do remember at some point, my mom expressing concern over the holiday and kind of wanting to ‘quit’. that said, what most people ‘celebrate’ as halloween is a far cry from where it came from. i don’t think that putting a kid in a bunny costume and ringing the neighbor’s doorbell is all that evil. dressing up is fun. candy is fun. but the bible warns about associating with witchcraft and mediums and various evil stuff like that. ***edited to add*** and as a christian, i believe that following the bible’s guidelines is important. does this not qu

big fat nothing

see all the big welts?  yeah, me neither.  our spectacular appointment with the allergist revealed that layla is allergic to nothing.  so we're back to square one and we know nothing other than that something is causing her bladder issues and we don't know what.  maybe her doctor can put a little pressure on the urologist to see us.  who knows.  and food doesn't seem to be causing her skin issues, nor the rash she gets on her face after eating sometimes.  okay, that's not exactly accurate.  food is causing it, but not an allergy.  she has sensitive skin and when food gets smeared on her face, it irritates her skin. so, as disappointed as i am that we've gotten nowhere here, i am looking on the bright side that she isn't allergic to something major like wheat or dairy that would create a significant lifestyle change in regards to our diet.  so in that respect, it's good news.  i just really want some answers.

so much to do

ugh. i have so much to do today, and i don’t want to do any of it.  i’m tired and living that vacation/reality aftermath where you got all used to not having to do your normal stuff and now you don’t want to. at any rate, this is what i have to do today: laundry, laundry and more laundry unload and reload dishwasher vacuum living room pick up layla’s pig sty bedroom meeting w/ shane’s advising teacher week’s menu plan grocery list grocery shopping shower and get dressed (preferably before the meeting/grocery shopping happens) upload photos of the weekend and post all i really want to do is sit in a chair in my jammies and knit!  i wonder why?  ;-)

party planning - from a 3 year old.

with micah's birthday coming up on friday, there has been a lot of discussion of party themes. for some reason, layla has become completely convinced that micah should have a princess party. this totally cracks me up because she's been talking since july about how when she turns 4, she's going to have a pirate birthday. so she brought this up again this morning while she, micah and i were all flopping around in the bed waiting for the house to warm up (coffee to finish brewing). i said that micah didn't really want a princess birthday, at which point he crawled over me and farted. so layla, in true layla fashion, said, "maybe he should have a fart party."
